Welcome back, dear readers, for another prestigious Saturday! For this week’s spotlight, I chose to put one of my personal grails in the spotlight: Moltres (149/147) from Platinum’s - Supreme Victors!
While it might not be the most spectacular artwork for some people, it surely stands out among others. To start off; yes, it’s a secret rare card, meaning that it’s very hard to pull! The other cool part is that this Moltres has connecting artworks with 2 other cards… Articuno and Zapdos! How cool is that! It was a tough choice which one I would pick for this spotlight, but I think Moltres has more grace than the other 2 birds.

Most of the Pokémon cards I really like have artworks where the Pokémon and background feel coherent. Here, that is not the case at all, but that’s also why this card is such an eyecatcher. Basic shapes and colors are used for Moltes, and the background feels detached completely from the Pokémon. Those stars and the neat shadows make the card even more unique!
A little backstory: When I was little, I had a friend that owned the Articuno (we traded cards often on the playground). My brother and I already had the Moltres, and we really wanted to have that Articuno as well because they went perfectly together. My friend did not even hesitate to trade it with us for some other cards. Little did we know this card was so rare!
Right now I have 1 mission left: finding Zapdos to complete the artwork.
