Gastly - 64/196

Halloween is nearly there, and this week’s Happy Hits has to fit that theme!

Gastly (064/196) , originally from Lost Origin, made a comeback in the Trick or Trade 2023 series. While this spooky Pokémon is not considered “cute” by many people, I think this card will change their mind! Let’s go in depth why exactly that is.

To start, this Gastly card is one of the few cards where Gastly actually smiles of joy. You can see that he is happily spooking around in an older house filled with kidstoys, while normally we would expect Ghost-type Pokémon to be in spooky forests or haunted houses (okay, the house he’s in right now is not the most cozy house, but not super spooky either). Making objects float is part of his game, and you see he’s liking it!

Besides the cute scene, I also think the artwork has some nice features. The softer purple tones with the subtle colored toys make the card feel less dramatic for a Ghost-type, while still sparkling some mysterious vibes. I like that!

The last detail why his card deserves to be in the spotlight is of course that pumpkin Pikachu stamp on the right. It makes it the ideal Happy Halloween card!
