Damn, all those old holos really are something. I came across this card at the back of my binder (see what I did there? Back in the Binder? Yes, very funny… haha okey let’s move on). I have no clue why it was still sitting there: Spinda (26/92) from Legend Maker sparkled my eyes.
Illustrated by Motofumi Fujiwara, this Spinda feels like one of those rare cards that have been forgotten through time. I’m pretty sure not a lot of people actively remember having this card, and that is exactly why I wanted to place this card in the spotlight today.
Spinda is a very unique Pokémon due to its patterns. When I say patterns for a Pokémon, Vivillon comes to mind with 20 different variants. But Spinda is on a whole other level. 50 patterns? 100 patterns? 1000 patterns? … All wrong. There are over 4 Billion different Spinda patterns (over 8 billion if you count the shiny variants as well)! Can you believe that? If you are interested how we get to this number, thegamer has a nice article about it.
Back to the card. I have seen more “spectacular” artworks on older cards, but I love the general look and feel of this one, especially with the holo pattern. I love how the grasses give that “Pokemon game” grass-patch vibe. The volcano in the background is a nice addition for the overall scene.
