Bulbasaur - 45/100

Today in the Back in the Binder spotlight is Bulbasaur (45/100) from Crystal Guardians, illustrated by Sumiyoshi Kizuki. We’ve already seen this illustrator here on Pocket Scout before (and yes, also featured in my “Back in the Binder” series) with Jirachi, and just like I loved that artwork, Kizuki impresses me again!

As an original 151 Pokémon, Bulbasaur is a fan favorite among many. Seeing such a simple yet characteristic design for this Pokémon is a true delight. If we take a look at the scene, we can see our little friend is eating some petals from… Flabébé flowers? I mean, it kinda looks like that, right?

That simplistic style takes me back to a time where things were simple as well – not worrying about anything as a kid, just enjoying playing with Lego, Pokémon cards and playing those good old Nintendo games.

But we are growing up, and we have to make the best out of it! That doesn’t mean we have to do “adult-things” only from now on. Let’s make some time for our childhood hobbies as well, and do what makes the inner-child in us come out: Collecting Pokémon cards.
